BUR and Coating Systems

Asphalt-based BUR systems were properly and effectively installed in countless buildings over the years. These systems have proven to be effective for the owners for over a decade. Many are now leaking, thus approaching the end of their service life and presenting a dilemma for these owners. The expense and business interruption involved with a tear off and re-roof project have forced these owners to seek other remedies. Coatings provide the ideal solution for many of these leaking roof systems.

We will do a roof evaluation, whether it is a smooth BUR or a gravel system, to determine project eilgibilty. If there is still life left in the system, no massive ponding water and trapped moisture in the system is not an issue, we can proceed with developing a project specification. The amount of pitch of the existing roof will determine which ALDOCOAT premium grade coating and primer product will be chosen for the project. ALDOCOAT 374 Acrylic can be used where sufficient positive drainage exits. ALDOCOAT 384 Polyurethane or ALDOCOAT 660 Butyl can be specified on roofs that do experience some ponding water conditions. Typically, ALDOPRIME 720, a solvent-based neoprene primer, is used to maximize the adhesion of any of our top quality coating products.

The project pictured here was a gravel BUR system, had the gravel removed, surface primed with ALDOPRIME 720 and coated with ALDOCOAT 384 Polyurethane. The result is a white, reflective sealed roof system that defers the cost of complete roof replacement for years to come.
